Nathan met his wife, Sonji, during high school, where she shared his enthusiasm for community service. They have been married for 12 years and have three children: Nora (6), Thomas (4), and Natalie (2).

After college, Nathan worked as a Network Engineer for Sprint in Reston, Virginia, where he was responsible for design and operations of Sprint’s Internet backbone. In 1998, he was recruited as part of a networking “dream team” to move to Colorado and build out Qwest’s new Internet backbone. In 2000, Nathan left Qwest to help form Virtela Communications, a startup telecommunications company focused on providing network-based VPNs and managed services to companies around the world. Nathan is currently the Principal Network Architect at Virtela. Nathan also is the co-founder of Headstorms, Inc., a consulting firm.

Nathan occupies his spare time with several pursuits. He is a member of the Arapahoe County Community Emergency Response Team, an operation of Citizen Corp that trains citizens in disaster preparedness, fire suppression, medical triage, search & rescue, and incident command. CERT is called upon in times of disaster to assist as first responders. At the local level, Nathan serves on the Hemophilia Society of Colorado Advocacy Working Group. At the national level, Nathan also serves on the National Hemophilia Foundation Emergency Preparedness Panel and the Public Policy Working Group. He has served as Treasurer of his HOA, and is a licensed Amateur Radio operator, and a member of MENSA. Nathan is also a member of Toastmasters.

Nathan is on the Board of Directors for Health Care for All Colorado. Nathan is a founding member of the national Business Coalition for Health Care Reform. He also served on the Colorado Blue Ribbon Commission for Health Care Reform Business Task Force.

Nathan and his family currently live in Arapahoe County, Colorado.
