Colorado natives know and appreciate the beauty our state, while those that have moved here often cite the beauty and availability of resources as major contributing factors to their move. As we continue to grow as a state, it is important that we protect access to parks and natural areas for our children and future generations. This means smarter development of commercial and residential areas, protection of water resources, and higher standards for reducing commercial pollution.
Water rights and availability of water, particularly during drought conditions, is a major concern. I believe we should create legislation enabling homes and businesses to make efficient use of water through greywater reclamation. This would enable homeowners to store limited amounts of used-once water (from sinks, gutter run-off, etc.), filter it, and use it for non-potable secondary purposes, such as landscape irrigation. Nearby states already harder-hit by drought conditions have had great success with such programs and show greywater reclamation to be a clean, responsible way to save money, save water, and safely improve the environment. Used in conjunction with xeriscaping, we will be able to substantially mitigate future drought conditions.
Protecting and improving the environment is part of my Triple Bottom Line philosophy at home, in business, and for good government.
